a small pipe burst in my class yesterday. upon offering my class about five options - including a free private lesson bc i felt real embarrassed - they voted to crank up the music and keep it flowing. . . so, we did. amidst custodians and managers coming in and out & loudly whispering solutions, they stayed focused. in the end, they all got offered free memberships which was cool, but the coolest thing to me was that they didn’t get bent out of shape. . . a dedicated asana yoga practice has that effect - breathing in shapes on the mat so you don’t get bent outta shape off the mat 🤓 . . happy thursday. check your pipes 🔧 . . 📸 @doyoushoot

let’s root for each other 🌱and watch each other grow 🌳 there is an invaluable importance in supporting other humans on their journey. i often feel hardwired to be critical of myself, and i wonder if that makes me hard on others, consciously or subconsciously. it feels good to soften and remember how you got to where you are today, how there was a point where you wanted the things you now have. there are so many people in my life (even strangers) that made space for me & encouraged me to grow. mercury is retrograde & the past is just SHOWIN UP, so this is my attempt to find gratitude for it all. find somebody who got you where you are today; thank them 🙏🏼

me, the extrovert ➡️ me, the extrovert with social anxiety 😂 . . as i’ve gotten older, now 28, i am finally starting to appreciate my anxiety, make friends with it. two years ago amidst what felt like total crisis, i would have never understood this perspective. i see now that anxiety is not my problem to fight or resent; it’s my wake-up call to slow down & listen within. . . sometimes i know what causes it. other times i’m crying in my cubicle, wishing i had a built-in george costanza nap compartment to hide in (like... actually yesterday. thanks for being superman @caleb_terry). i used to focus on being anxious & how disruptive it was in my life. i’m now working toward slowing down enough to listen and recognize where my power is. i have power within, not power over - what a revolutionarily simple concept. . . disclaimer: mental health medical professionals are amazing. consult them for help! cognitive behavioral therapy & medication can give you your life back from crippling anxiety, and no one on social media has the right (or likely the credentials) to downplay medical science if it works for you. yoga, meditation, nutrition, oils, etc are wonderful supplements, not silver bullet solutions! . . 📸 @doyoushoot with my favorite candids ☺️

the first time i ever tried crow pose was in my junior year dorm room & i face planted so hard on the floor my nose got rug burn 🤦🏻‍♀️ ⏩ fast forward 8 years to a hot yoga class i took with @molly_pooler_yoga this summer when the teacher called crow & i hopped right in it. it finally felt easy. that is... UNTIL the teacher patted her thighs and said “come on, jump up!” my first thought was LOL WTF & when she tapped her legs again i knew she had an absurd level of faith in my strength. so, there go my legs to the sky 🤸🏻‍♀️ she stabilized my handstand and walked away, leaving me basically naked and afraid for my life, but it was cool 😂 . moral of the story: get the hell out of your comfort zone! we all work so hard in what we do on/off the mat, so relish in the successes, but don’t stay anywhere so long that you get attached to a particular situation or outcome. you never know when your crow could be a rug-burn somersault or a surprise handstand. both outcomes are valuable. . so many amazing crows out there for day 2 of !
