I am still so taken with having been in a city that sings out five times a day. Finding places high up, the calls were so tangible it were as though you could see them travelling in a great wave, echoing through every winding alley from one side of the city to the other. To be grateful and reflective and to sing out is a beautiful way to mark the passage of the day.
Picture One: a cheeky Ez and an incredible spread we shared with @__sibel and @henrisantoro Picture Two: GOTTA EAT FAST In the first picture you can see there’s a plate of whole onion slices. I shoved an entire one of those into my gob, because I was feeling home sick. Not really. It’s because I’m an idiot. #putoutyouronions #hadAbbottenough
~ We’re at the stumbling phase of the midnight waltz At a bookend to the weirdest of weeks 'Cause there are feelings that are strong And there are ones that are mixed At the dawn of my young life’s eclipse I was a girl once, now; I’m a kind-of-adult Catching up on the cool shit I missed •
~ I think about a world to come Where the books were found by the Golden Ones Written in pain, written in awe By a puzzled man who questioned What we were here for All the strangers came today (And it looks as though they're here to stay) • Still super bitter about the loss of the last Library of Alexandria (but the new one is beautiful too)
One of the very best bits of my pop over to Africa was getting to help celebrate Erin’s henna hen’s party with her beautiful family-to-be. Egyptian women. Throw. Down. Some of the girls taught me moves I got to show off at Erin and Hossam’s wedding last month (another gorgeous day with many more gorgeous people), and got laughed at for my own dance moves (though, Australians also laugh at me when I do my groove and shake).
Hey there, Mediterranean! Good to sea ya! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This was the dawn view from the balcony of my $16.00 a night room in Alexandria. As soon as my train arrived I wished I’d allowed for more time there to properly explore and drink in the seaside city, but I suspect I’d feel that way no matter how long I booked for.
Ez and I getting in on that Egyptian midnight snack culture. #shaebelieben This was taken around two o’clock on our last night in Cairo, before I flew home and Ez moved out of her apartment, and I’m about to learn the meaning of hubris as I get my cocky butt kicked by an absolute beginner.
The second night in a row we gambled our lives on rickety carnival whizzie-whizzies. Ez and I would have sat next to each other but all the seats between us were broken. I was quite keen to know more about the Egyptian health care system but risking our own admissions with two pairs of broken feet because this thing flung us so dang close to buildings and trees was perhaps not the way to go about getting a hospital tour. #yorrob!! #lookatyourlife #lookatyourchoices #travelinsurance #rideordie
