Good morning! So yesterday I finally announced a new initiative that I’m involved with, Destination Gold Coast’s inaugural Digital Content Awards. If you’re on the Gold Coast and you’re a content creator then you have to enter! You can enter every category if you want, but only one entry per category, and the 7 categories are: Best Overall Content Package, Industry Storyteller of the Year, Gold Coast Image of the Year, Gold Coast Story of the Year, Newbie Award, Games 2018 Award and Content Star Award. 😱😍 I’ve got the link up in my bio if you’re keen to check it out, even get to the Goldie to capture some shots before the deadline? Good morning!! I’m back on a plane, back on the road and back on Instagram after a solid two weeks at home and I’ve got lots to share. In fact I think I’ll do up an Instagram story on my next flight to tell you all the goss. 🤔 In the meantime I do have one big announcement: Destination Gold Coast have just launched their inaugural digital content awards. 😱😱 Pay attention if you live on the Gold Coast, you’ve traveled there recently or you’re coming soon ... Basically I’m involved with this concept, along with the Travel Bootcamp girls, and we’ll be back on the Gold Coast in December for the awards night. There are 7 categories that are open to all content creators; photographers, writers, bloggers, videographers, Instagrammer etc. The website is now live and I’ve popped it in my profile for you to check out. This is the FIRST ONE so if you’re on the Gold Coast and you enter you have a good chance of reaching the finalist stage or winning. (Actual prizes, including sweet, sweet money) 💁🏼‍♀️💰💰💰 And the best part is that nobody owns the content you enter, there’s no sneaky clauses whatsoever! Please enter everyone! 😍😍 @destinationgoldcoast . . . . .

One of the most common frustrations of learning photography is being on holidays and not knowing what frigging settings to use, coming home with shots that are blurry or not truly how you remember the destination looking. I can still vividly remember how dejected I felt when I took my first camera overseas to Zimbabwe and couldn’t quite capture the glory of the Victoria Falls, I thought that I had missed a once in a lifetime opportunity. Your automatic settings seriously don’t cut it, a camera isn’t a human and can’t differentiate between the nuances of the shot you’re attempting. This is why I’m so excited for everyone doing my Get Camera Confident online photography course (link in bio > @laurenepbath ), because I’ve made it so easy to learn manual photography. Once settings become second nature you’re free to dedicate your energy into composition and creative choices. Here’s another shot from Patagonia, in all her autumn beauty. 🍂🍁🍁🍂❤️ . . . . .

That time that you’re in Patagonia and stumble across a perfectly still salt lake and have like 10 minutes to capture it before the wind picks up! 😬 The main thing that I’m trying to achieve in my new online photography course is to get people to the point where choosing settings isn’t scary AF. All new photographers begin in the same place and that place is piecing together what you know, making a million mistakes, learning each time and then getting better shoot by shoot. My course already has all of my mistakes outlined and is designed to fast track you past that awkward stage. Most of the people who have completed the course are confidently shooting in manual and understanding each creative decision, I feel like a proud parent. 😂😂 Patagonia Salt Lake = ISO LOW, f11, 1/25 seconds handheld on my Olympus E-M1 Mark II. You can check out my course via the link in my bio > @laurenepbath . . . . .

At long last I am settling in to edit some of the photos I’ve shot on personal travels this year, I’m sorry I made you wait so long! This is Patagonia, I traveled here in April on a Will Patino Photography Tour. I’m hoping to find some time this week to do a mini tutorial series and pick up with my Instagram Story photography tutorials too, because my online course is now live again! We reopened the cart at the end of June to celebrate the Travel Bootcamp. We’ve now got hundreds of people at different stages of the course, a booming Facebook community and new ongoing memberships now active. As for this shot, well this was practically a point and shoot. Haha. Patagonia is kind of ridiculous. 🙌🏻😍 . . . . .

INSTAMEET ANNOUNCEMENT! I had a chuckle when I found this photo on my camera roll because it’s the Spit Main Beach and I’ve literally had my last six instameet’s at the Spit Main Beach, basically I make you all come to me. 🙊🙊 (I live 2km away) ANYWHOO ... who wants to come to an instameet? Let’s catch up Gold Coast peeps. I’m thinking let’s meet at the Spit (Main Beach) at the café on Sunday the 15th (next Sunday) at 3:00 PM. I only do instameets to chat because I’ve never had a good sunset on a Gold Coast Instameet, let’s see if I can break my unlucky streak. Bring your camera if you can be bothered otherwise let’s just gossip and then go and eat indian food? Tag your friends, it’s open to all. 😍 . . . . . @destinationgoldcoast

Okay, I know there’s a lot to look at here and I know you all want a “Busy AF” notepad but that’s not the most exciting product in this shot! I literally only do product shots when I really, really want to focus your attention onto something cool and this is a game changer! Hint: look to the middle of the photo! You’re looking at Western Digital’s brand new “My Passport Wireless SSD”. 😱😱 I actually helped the Western Digital team to do their media launch in Sydney a few weeks back and I hope to continue working with them into the future. There is nothing this advanced on the market, I’ve argued with heaps of people over this fact. Haha. It’s a Wireless data storage solution (bear with me here because I am sooooo not techie 🙅🏼‍♀️🤖😂) and it has one touch SD card backup, it’s drop proof, it can stream 4K video wirelessly and you can connect it to an app and preview RAW files. Oh, and it charges your phone. 💁🏼‍♀️📱 I figured out how to use it in 2 minutes and I stuff it into my camera bag to back up my cards on the go, in the field. Go online, read the stats, buy it and try to tell me that it’s not “the precious”. 💍 Anyway that’s what I’m here for, to share good news. You’re welcome. 😂 @wdcreators . . . . .

Well I am home for the next 2 1/2 weeks catching up on things and I’ve got lots of exciting news to share! For example, I just had my fifth @thetravelbootcamp conference here on the Gold Coast and it was an incredible success. I’ve also reopened the cart for my online photography course and you can check it out via my bio now. (“Get Camera Confident > Link in bio) We’ll be releasing monthly subscriptions to more advanced content as well, which is super exciting. I’m soon going to be talking more about my upcoming Zimbabwe tours but I think I’ve just sold the last two spots (with no marketing 😳) so I’m almost considering announcing a second workshop? 🙈🙈 I’ve got a LOT of travel coming up including Vanuatu and Tonga and I’m finally going to get around to editing my Patagonia shots and European holiday shots. All of this plus some commercial shoots and plenty of stories coming out this month. Oh, and a HUGE announcement from @destinationgoldcoast that only Bootcamp delegates know so far. For those that think I just relax when I’m at home ... I don’t! I actually look forward to work trips because I give myself a break from admin. 😂😂 Oh, and I’m thinking of having an instameet on the Gold Coast, thoughts? 😍😍😍

I debated on posting this shot but then I decided that this information needed to be shared with the world! Behold the best restaurant I’ve eaten at in ages! (Yes, I know that I say that all the time 😂) This is the Agrarian Kitchen Eatery, about a 40 minutes drive from Hobart. Write it down, save this post or google it now! You need to book! The reason why my flat lay looks quite sparse on the food front is because the waitress WOULDN’T LET US GET ALL OUR FOOD AT ONCE. She demanded that we enjoy it and don’t eat our food cold! 😱 This is even after knowing that Tourism Tasmania were hosting us. I love her, I love this place and those potato cakes you see are literal death! I ate all the things! (Even the bread 😩🥖) @agrariankitcheneatery @tasmania . . . . .

Okay, so this is exciting! This is me doing a sunrise shoot from the MACq01. (I actually did a few sunrises ... go me!) BUT that’s not the cool thing ... Can you see what I’m standing on? It’s that totally kitsch fake grass that for some reason I have heaps of childhood memories of. 😂 Meanwhile, while I was out busting my gut taking photos at the crack of dawn, Dreamboat was just behind the curtains snoring his head off. 😩💤😡😂 Anyway, every third floor room at the hotel has a massive patio with delightful fake grass to play on and if that’s not reason enough to stay I don’t know what is. 😂💚 @MACq01 . . . . .

Despite the fact that I went down to Tasmania for Dark Mofo I actually did very little shooting at Dark Mofo, I was too busy enjoying it! 😂This year Spectra (pictured) made a triumphant return to the event, a massive laser installation based at Mona. Besides the obligatory visit to Mona I also enjoyed a LOT of the festivities including; Waterborne, Dark Park, the Ogoh-Ogoh procession, lots of pop up installations and I went to the Feast! (Every. Single. Night!) I’ve also got some good news for everyone that missed Dark Mofo this year; Spectra is becoming a year-round art work at Mona! We also caught the Mona Ferry for the first time, it’s a very short walk from the Henry Jones to the pier. @TheHenryJones . . . . .

I can tell you, it was not easy to get my warm ass out of bed to shoot sunrise back towards the Henry Jones Art Hotel! The Henry Jones is an institution in Hobart and possibly my favorite hotel in the city, or at least an equal tie with the MACq01. Luckily they’re both owned by the same people so I can say that. 🙊🙊 During my time in Tassie I had three nights at the MACq01 and two at the Henry Jones. I really wanted to get up to Mount Wellington to catch a sunrise for you guys but sadly the road was closed every morning due to ice. It’s advisable to check online before making the drive. I hope this is an adequate substitute? The Hobart waterfront is pretty damn pretty. 🎀💕 @TheHenryJones . . . . .
