Three directional reaches and precisions. ⠀ A task. ⠀ One given to me by @yuenjon . ⠀ "This task is one that my clients get when it's time to gain a deeper understanding and control of counterweight in various squats and scales. The premise is pretty simple- hold three objects in your hands and place them as far away from you as possible. Once they're in place, touch all the objects with your foot - after that, pick the objects up again and repeat on the opposite side. ⠀ The reason I call this a task (not an exercise) is because the goal is not to move a specific way. Instead, it is to move in any way necessary in order to solve a problem in a specific context. ⠀ Techniques creates qualities. Tasks create opportunities." ⠀ When people ask me about climbing, I give them a similar answer. It's not about exercise. It's about the puzzle. And it fascinates me to watch others complete the same puzzle (task/problem) as me in so many different ways. It's challenging and so different than how I've viewed exercise for so long. I enjoy tasks. I enjoy puzzles. ⠀

First time sport climbing and top roping outdoors in a long time. Holcomb took a toll on my ego yesterday and kept a ton of my skin as payment. ⠀ Besides climbing- ⠀ @move_with_ian ‘s GPS took him to the wrong muddy forest roads and he never made it. Sigh. ⠀ Rasco got in his first real dog fight and although he’s okay, he’s sporting a few sets of new holes in his ear to show off his battle. I wouldn’t say he was victorious, but he handled himself okay. His thick rolls of skin are good for something. ⠀ Cars got stuck in the mud pits on the way out of the area. ⠀ And it took us until 1am to get home since the main road off big bear was closed at the end so we had to turn around and go back up the Mountain for a new route down. ⠀ All that aside- it felt good to be on some real rock. I attempted a crack climb that I had no right even attempting. Considering I’ve never learned any technique or practiced on anything before. ⠀ These first photos- it’s a crack that goes up into that ceiling overhang and continues out and over. I made it up the crack to the ceiling (somehow) and left a ton of skin to prove it. But then I fell and managed to make my own way up by crawling around to the outside crack- up and over. ⠀ Thanks for the fun day @sheclimb , @msellie07 , @shahinziad

A goal of mine: get people to ask better questions. ⠀ Nicole came to me with ALL the questions. And as we problem-solved the mobility issues going on with her body, she also learned how to problem solve for the people who hire her. ⠀ This is what it is about. It does not need a label. Nicole is someone who cares about learning and bettering her craft. ⠀ That is the kind of student we should all strive to be. ⠀ @nicolesciacca ・・・ ...|||... Have you ever loved something so much, you’ve had to take a good hard look at its flaws, and then learned how to love it differently? I have been and I am currently doing this with yoga. Primarily the shapes. The way we epitomize, glorify, sensualize, covet and then eventually and hopefully let go of the NEED to make the “shapes”. I feel so fortunate to have befriended and studied with @hunterfitness now for almost a year. The irony is that he’s taught me more about yoga in teaching me about the science of mobility than I could have imagined. Today a little magic took place when I came into class w (unspoken about) nerve pain in my left hamstring and 75 min later the pain was completely gone. Look, I love yoga. And just like every relationship, it needs to be evaluated frequently. There is not a cure for everything. There is no magic pill. There is inquisition, hard work, and more inquisition. This is my open thank you letter to Hunter for not only opening my eyes but carefully and gently guiding me off the ledge and onto my ass where I could sit and take a hard look at what is before me. Find people who know more than you and start asking questions. You’ll never regret that. Or maybe you will, but give it time...
