I’ve been boxing for 6 weeks now & I’m addicted to it. It’s hands down (well actually hands up elbows in) the best workout period. I’m down 15 lbs. I know my form needs work and I have to snap back my left to protect but I finally feel like I’ve got the rhythm & stamina working in my favor. My trainer @fitfatboy got me sweating like I used to get onstage doing college shows for 3 hours. I recommend this workout and don’t worry about form or any of the sideliners telling you what you are doing wrong just listen to your trainer and find what is working right. Finesse around that. Work out the kinks as you go. See ya in the ring. #dingding #round1FIGHT #thecracksmacksoundmeansyouredoingitright #lifeisafight
Being underestimated is a part of life. It’s ingrained in us to see the weakness in someone, to base their value on how they make you feel right at the start, no time for development or understanding. Even in Hollywood the basic process is “don’t give’em a reason to say no.” That’s not the right approach.. to consider what your lacking as opposed to what you bring to the table. Every step of the way I was told “not gonna happen” and those words became my fuel. I wanna host SNL.. I was told no. I would like to play arenas.. I was told it’s out of my reach. I wanted to produce.. I wasn’t a film student so prob not.. and now I’ve EP’d my own films and specials. I want to write & direct.. I was told to focus on what I was already doing to make more money and gain more fame... I just finished a short I co-wrote and produced and directed and star in. I’ve directed my highest rated comedy specials too. If you are feeling disenfranchised just stop letting it dictate your mood. People suck.. lots of opinions from people doing nothing but tearing you down, so only listen to your own voice and the voices of successful people around you who want nothing from you except to see you excel. Good luck on your journey. Take the long high road. There is more time to think about how to keep them as you’re driving towards your goals.
The 2nd week of shows I sold out at #MadisonSquareGarden I also filmed for one of my specials, “Rough Around The Edges.” The show was almost entirely half improv in front of the sold out venue. RATE is a highlight moment and it reminds me a lot of the comedy I’m doing today. Strong worked out stories with tons of LPMs but I allow myself to just riff in the moment. My new specials and shows will be more dynamic and diverse. I can’t wait to share more in the coming months.
I feel at home directing. Probably the same feeling I get doing stand up. Being in control of something that is often times uncontrollable. Figuring out the puzzle of scenes with only a script as the map to guide you. I am an actors director. I know how to talk to actors and how to help them to figure out the answers in their own unique way. That is why you cast great actors, not to hit marks but to raise the stakes and bring the best out of actors opposite them. @mo_abhat is starring in our short American Typecast & you will soon see he is a guy that brings the heart & humor. I am writing my next full length feature to direct and speaking with a couple of comedians about directing their specials too. We shall see. First we need to finish editing this one and hope we get some festival love. I can’t wait to tell more stories, tell you more about my story. g’night everyone!
I’ve been boxing with @fitfatboy for a couple months now & I feel amazing. My dad was a boxer when he was at BC. He was always showing me the fundamentals.. I bet he would still be going a few rounds with me if he was around. George was a toughie. Down 6 1/2 % body fat and lost 10 lbs. This pic was taken moments before I TKO’d myself somehow during a slip. I think I stepped on that random straw on the floor next to my foot.
This muscle-less shirt wearing kid with the strongest fucking legs you’ve ever seen rocked a white belt and dirty sneakers. He was a giant when he went to the park and tried to sit under the tallest smallest tree near the pond, where swans would look at him like, “damn that is a beautiful creature.” Flip to the next pic to see how this rebel without a juicebox grew up to be a mature adult and one of the comedian voted “the Apple iPhone of comedians” by the Wall Street Journal.
My friend (and fellow Monkey) sent me this pic the other day. This was the comedy group I started in when I first did the comedy circuit. We spent 4 years working non stop and it took us all over New England where we built our confidence, stage presence & Boston accents. I have fond memories of the many many shows we performed at clubs & colleges. A lot of people gave us shit.. lots of haters (some of my OG haters!) bc we were young studs with the cutest girls coming to our shows. I left the group first to pursue my stand up career but I don’t know if I would have ever jumped ship if I had not shared a stage with these fellas. #nicememories
