Letโ€™s talk ABS โ€ผ๏ธ and what you need to do to get abs and SEE those abs. . Commonly asked question: Do you need to do ab exercises in order to get abs? The answer is no. You donโ€™t NEED to do traditional ab focused workouts in order to get abs. If you know how to engage and use your core/abs properly during your strength workouts, you can build abs just by using and engaging your core during strength based moves alone . Aside from that, no matter how many traditional OR non-traditional ab workouts you do, whether you can see them or not depends on a few things. First is: genetics!! Do you have a naturally lean tummy? If so, A. Lucky you ๐Ÿ˜ and B. you probably donโ€™t need to do as much cardio in order to reveal those abs and you just need to focus on building core strength. (And eat properly to assist in building that muscle) . If you DONโ€™T have a naturally lean tummy (like me) then that saying โ€œabs are built in the gym and revealed in the kitchenโ€ applies to you. Bummer, I know!! And in our case, often times belly fat is the last to go and the first to come back. It is what it is! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ The more you fight against it, the more you push back reaching your goals. So focusing on strength workouts, properly engaging your core, doing cardio (not more than strength training though) AND keeping your meals/macros in check is what needs to be at the top of your (fitness) priority list. . While as you girls know, I do not believe abs are everything, not one bit. But there also isnโ€™t anything wrong with having physical goals *as long as you arenโ€™t putting your mental and emotional health on the back burner* in order to achieve those goals. . Workout of 6 done! Iโ€™ve been really on top of things this week and itโ€™s a great feeling! For no reason other than being in the right mindset (robot mode + not cancelling on myself + positive self talk) and preparing ahead of time, both my schedule to fit my workouts in and preparing my meals for each day. . Iโ€™ve been thinking about this for a while and Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™m able to put this into words the way I want, but I think a lot of times what is most damaging to ourselves is not the workout itself we donโ€™t do, but itโ€™s the not following through on our promises to ourselves. THAT is the nail in the coffin to a perpetual lack of self-confidence more than a lack of athletic ability. Does that make sense? Would you agree? . Itโ€™s mentally and emotionally exhausting to always make promises to ourselves that โ€œthis is the week I make a changeโ€ and to never actually take the steps to make those changes, or to make them for one week then fall back into bad habits. . Itโ€™s TOUGH to change. Our bodies and our minds are designed to be resistant to change! Which is why you have to fight against that inclination to do what is comfortable and known to you and throw yourself into the unknown. If it doesnโ€™t challenge you, it doesnโ€™t change you! . I find the times Iโ€™m the hardest on myself are the times I keep making excuse after excuse. And Iโ€™m not hard on myself because of the workouts I missed but moreso because I knew I could do better with my commitment to myself. This week, I did better. And I hope you are too!! FEELS WHEN YOU FINALLY GET YOUR WORKOUT IN ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ˜ญ Do you ever just have one of those days?! You can plan and plan and plan but absolutely nothing goes according to that plan ๐Ÿคฃ . I had the hardest time getting to the gym today even though I was up and ready to go by 8am, thing after thing kept popping up. Motivation is hard to come by some days and those are the days you need to focus on being dedicated rather than motivated. . The truth is... motivation comes and goes and is unreliable! Realizing this and and putting it into action is a GAME ๐Ÿ‘ CHANGER ๐Ÿ‘. So even though I had a million reasons why not to today, I made it happen. Coming from someone who working out/eating healthy was NOT a part of their upbringing, trust me when I say if I can do it you can too!! . P.S. days like today happen when I DONT work out at 6am. ๐Ÿ™ˆ 6am = no other distractions and you gotta get in and out before the day starts! And once youโ€™re done, no need to think about or dread that workout you might be putting off until later in the day.
