A lot of people write about their career shifts usually from desk job to fitness/ health world. Usually packed in with an overall, “follow your heart” message, sprinkled with a bit of “live out your dream” jargon. No one really talks about the shift from fitness/health to “desk job” you know, the “traditional” one from “9-5” the one that gets a bad rep. Maybe because it doesn’t seem as daring? Maybe because it isn’t as exciting? Maybe because it isn’t (sadly) like ‘The Office.’ But I have to say, having my first “desk job” ever, is so fascinating to me. Weird, I know. But there’s something so valuable about learning the micro policies and procedures that make an organization overall successful, especially in education. It’s been an interesting experience to compare what my everyday use to look like to what It looks like now. It’s almost blasphemous to go from fitness to office life, given that we are told to almost preach how bad it is. But to be honest, I have tons of respect for those who do. I am incredibly fortunate to work amongst the most prolific musicians in the nation, extraordinary scholars, and incredible administrators. It’s incredible to be surrounded by such devoted individuals out of pure passion of their craft. At the root of it, I’ve seen that this is community of people who truly value, respect, and nourish what each other, as individuals, can add to the whole. That is no light feat. And it’s such a shame that it isn’t the case for most organizations and companies. So far, working @frostschoolum has taught me that for an organization to be truly successful and growing you must, day in and day out, own up to those things because there’s no piece too small that isn’t needed to complete picture. For me, this shift has been less about the setting, and more about the mindset and framework. Ultimately, it’s teaching me about who I am, by doing what has not been “traditional” for ME in the past. ✨
Everyone you cross paths with is a mirror of something you love, hate, fear, take pride in. They can be a dream, a prayer, they can be confronting. The good, the bad, the ugly, has something to teach you and show you. When you learn to respond consciously and mindfully, than you are better able to navigate the pieces you still need to heal. When you walk through the world with gratitude you begin to learn that it’s not only about shedding light on the ‘good’, it’s also about putting value on whatever stops you dead in your tracks. Which hopefully, with some humor and grace, you can look back and say ‘thank you.’
I can’t possibly give what I do not have so please let me fill myself up so that what ever pours over stands in my truth. Let me source all that I have ever needed and meet it with all that I have ever meant, from the inside- out so that you know what I’m offering is never a question of your worth, never a doubt of where it’s coming from, or confusion of where it’s going if where I am standing is right here and all that pours over is yours. - source your service, start with you.
I commend those who day after day have had to look “business casual” before 8am. 😴
“I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who makes things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.” -Nietzsche To simply and uncompromisingly accept your reality. #sundayreads 📸 @photoherby
Eyes as big as mine make for a terrible liar... unable to hide behind the truth I’m always seeking.
The real work isn’t getting to the destination, it’s what you do once you have arrived. The real work starts when you are ready to make your being a home...to belong to yourself again. ✨
I look at lines and think ‘It’s almost impossible’ perfect and straight (stacked against us) create illusions Of “picture perfect” but I wonder if they hadn’t told us “Stay within the lines” would we have known how to color, (ourselves) would we have wanted to create our own image, instead - influences
Crushing office stereotypes one tattoo at a time. ⚡️ A reminder to not judge a book by its cover if you’re not willing to read its pages. Juxtaposition is a thing- and contrary to popular belief, it more often times than not, works. Be all the layers of you. #happyhumpday
Bad hair days are inevitable, bad attitude is optional. There are a lot of things out of our control, your disposition isn’t one of them. Hope you approach today with much gratitude + trust. ✨
You can spend your whole life flipping your world up side down so that others see it right side-up. You can spend your days on a quest to find your place in the world. Or you can live out the moments where you find the place within you. Instead of living out a life concerned with how others view you, can you shift your perspective and mirror it to ask, how do you view yourself? Maybe we’ve had it twisted all along.
Think twice before you do this, sweets. Remember: your energy is your highest form of currency. There will be people who will act like an emotional investment without any return. Which means be mindful of reciprocity, and make sure you’re not loving into thin air. ✨
