Matagouri Midnight. Mount Cook National Park. 2018 ____________________________________________________ Whilst on my very brief trip to Mt Cook National Park last week, I set out to shoot some astrophotography, since I havent done so in so long, and knew id now get better results with my new camera kit! We had such perfect conditions that night, there was not a cloud in the sky and very minimal lunar light, so I knew id capture something good. After sinking a pint and burger at the local pub, I planned to drive out towards Tasman Lake to shoot the Milky Way over the mountain peaks. However, when I returned to the car, I discovered that it had been completely frosted over! Instead, I simply walked for about 10 mins out of town into an open field, to find a grove of these spiky Matagouri trees. I looked up at the clear night sky above and noticed that the milky way was perfectly rising over this one particular tree, so I trudged through the icy grass and set up this wicked shot! I hope you enjoy this one! Shot on the @canonaustralia 5D Mark III with the 17-40mm L Lens ____________________________________________________

Tasman Lake Sunrise. Mount Cook National Park. 2018 ____________________________________________________ It was an absolutely incredible experience to watch the days first light gently illuminate the magical Tasman Lake and Mt Cook. When I got out the car, I saw this beautiful colour begin to glow over the horizon so I knew I was in for some magnificant light! However with a 15 min walk to the lake ahead of me, I couldnt wait, so I ran as fast as I could down the track to make sure I didnt miss out! When I arrived, I was just in time. So I set up my tripod and camera in a spot I located the day before and set up this shot. Relieved that I captured this truly amazing light, I simply sat back on a rock and watched the sun slowly rise in the sub-zero temperatures. I can safely say that this may be one of my favourite images I have captured to date! Ryde Falls. Canterbury. 2018 ____________________________________________________ Took a lovely 17km stroll through mostly ankle deep mud to get to this fine little waterfall the other day! . We left it a little bit late to start the walk as the tracks location was a bit sketchy to find - so we had to race the sun to make sure we returned to the car before dark - but we didnt! . Alas, it was a gorgeous walk through the dense beech forest, to get to the falls, but next time ill start a bit earlier! . Pukeko. Christchurch. 2018 ____________________________________________________ I really love this image I took yesterday of a Pukeko (Australasian Swamphen) wading through the shallow pools of Travis Wetlands in Christchurch. . Whilst I stopped on the track to change lenses, I noticed that a whole bunch of these guys started to walk over towards me and proceeded to feed on the submerged grasses beneath the still pool of water. . What really caught my eye were these beautiful ripples that would form as they were feeding, reflecting soft hues of blue and purple from the skies above. . Lesmurdie Falls. Perth WA. 2018 ____________________________________________________ So I finally got around to heading over to Lesmurdie Falls last week. Its one of those classic Perth spots that just HAS to be photographed, I mean check it out! You would not believe that this place is only about 20 mins from the city centre! It was great to see a healthy flow of water from all the rain we've been having lately! . Shot on the Canon 5D Mark III with the 17-40mm L Lens ____________________________________________________

South Fremantle Power Station. Perth, WA. 2018 ____________________________________________________ Decided to try something new the other day and shoot this classic relic that I go past all the time! . The famous abandoned power station in South Fremantle was opened in 1951 in order to power the rapid growth of Fremantle and its surrounding suburbs. However due to advances in technology, the plant closed in 1985 after it was deemed to be uneconomical to keep running. Now it stands as a spooky relic of the past, looming over the shores of C Y O'Connor Beach . The Numbat. Perth WA. 2018 ____________________________________________________ Love this shot I got of this little guy from a few weeks ago! . The activity of Numbats depends on the activity of their beloved prey, termites, in which they eat over 20,000 per day! During summer, Numbats feed on termites in the cooler hours of the morning and evening, whilst in winter, they feed during midday when the ground is warmer. . Deep in the Forest. Middle Earth. 2018 ____________________________________________________ This photograph was taken on one of the most enjoyable hikes I did during my time in NZ. The hike was along an unmarked trail that lead to the filming location of the Anduin River in The Lord of the Rings, but what struck me more were these huge, ancient trees that towered over me. I truly felt as if i was immersed within Middle Earth! ____________________________________________________

Hooker Lake. New Zealand . 2018 ____________________________________________________ Here's another shot from one of my favourite places, the awe-inspiring Mt Cook National Park! . Its pretty cazy how quickly the weather changes here, in the morning there was barely a cloud in the sky. However during the hike to Hooker Lake, the clouds started to roll in and it certainly made for some very moody shots . I hope everyone had a great weekend! ____________________________________________________

Hooker Valley. New Zealand . 2018 ____________________________________________________ The other night I thought id look back through some images I captured in New Zealand back in January - and I found this shot! Although there wasnt any crazy light or colour in the scene, I thought it would make a great Ansel Adams inspired monochrome landscape shot. Ive always loved the way Adams would utilize monochrome photography to allow the viewer to focus upon the textures, forms and atmosphere of the landscape itself, as opposed to some sort of crazy sunset/sunrise colours which can sometimes distract the viewer from the subject . I hope you enjoy my take on this technique! ____________________________________________________

Robbs Jetty Remnants. Perth. 2018 ____________________________________________________ With all these burnoffs we've been having lately here in Perth, I thought i'd head down to the old remnants of Robs Jetty for a sunset shoot, to capture some crazy colour produced by the smoke haze. So the other evening I headed down and was blessed with such beautiful tones of colour in the sky! . Rainbow Fiords. Te Anau. 2018 ____________________________________________________ One morning back in NZ, I woke up to a beautiful pink glow coming through the curtains. As soon as I realized what was going on, I quickly got dressed, grabbed my camera and ran out the door to try capture the light! . Luckily, I only had to run across the road to get to the shores of Lake Te Anau, where I noticed this light was softly falling over the fiords on the other side of the lake. So I chucked on a long lens and fired away! ____________________________________________________

Red Tailed Black Cockatoo. Thompson's Lake. 2018 ____________________________________________________ After finally grabbing myself a new telephoto lens, I went out on a trek to Thompson's Lake to try my luck at some wildlife photography. Upon arriving at the reserve in the late afternoon, the air was filled with the screeching of Red Tailed Black Cockatoos. So I followed my ears until I saw a small group feeding in some trees. In order to get close, I had to sneak up on them using grasstrees as cover, inching closer and closer until I was in position. I really liked the way these crazy branches created interesting frames to shoot through, and it was almost as if this female cockatoo knew exactly how to pose for me! . Wanaka Sunrise. New Zealand. 2018 ____________________________________________________ This is probably one of my favourite images I took whilst in New Zealand. The funny thing is that I always overlooked this particular shot from the one ive already posted, due to the lack of reflections, but check out that beautiful dawn light! Also sorry for all the NZ spam, I just had a blast shooting that amazing place!! ____________________________________________________

Rifleman. Milford Road. 2018 ____________________________________________________ These little guys are often found bouncing from tree to tree in search of insects within the moss and a whole bunch were following us around a short little hike just out from Milford Sound. These birds get their name as the colour of their plumage resembles the uniform of a colonial New Zealand rifleman regiment. ____________________________________________________

Ocean Beach. Denmark WA. 2018 ____________________________________________________ One morning whilst camping in Denmark, I was rudely awaken by a bunch of crows screeching above my tent. I checked the time to see that it was about 15 minutes before sunrise. Since I was awake I thought i may as well get up, head to Ocean Beach with the camera and see what I couls find. . After climbing around some rocks for a while, passing a nesting Osprey and spying a pod of dolphins surfing in the waves - I finally spotted this composition. . So I set up my camera and awaited sunrise to see if some colour would erupt. Unfortunately, that didnt happen, so I focused on trying to capture some silky smooth water washing through these rocks and to be honest - im pretty stoked with how it turned out! . The Gap. Albany WA. 2018 ____________________________________________________ Heading back home to Albany over the Easter long weekend was just what I needed! A couple of days camping with no access to any screens and simply being entertained by the sounds of birds does wonders to ya! . Its funny though because when I lived here I never truly appreciated the beauty of the coastline - it just seemed 'normal' to me. But its not until you leave for some time and return later that you realise just how maginificent it truly is! .
