One of the reasons I started diving was to be in the water with manta rays, and recently I had my best dive with them so far. They were everywhere, coming from all directions and it was absolutely breathtaking. They are curious by nature and will sometimes come right up to you and stay for a while. It can be so exciting that you have to remember to breath in you regulator. True manta magic! Mantas are protected in Indonesia, in part due to the incredible conservation work done by my friends at Marine Megafauna Southeast Asia @marinemegafauna But illegal fishing still goes on, in large part because of demand for their gills, which is believed to have medical benefits. Which of course they don’t have, any more then ivory and rhino horns are afrodesiacs #wildlife

A doe, along with her fawn, stopped and posed just long enough for me to capture a quick Family Portrait. A moment later they slipped through the bushes and navigated a nearly vertical drop over the bluff to the beach blow. Beautiful and amazing animals! #wildlife

A little red-bellied snake (Storeria occipitomaculata) from northern Illinois. These are very small snakes only reaching lengths of 8-10 inches. Red-bellied snakes can be somewhat variable in color with black, gray, and brown varieties commonly found. As their name suggests their belly varies from bright red (as in this individual) to pale orange. They spend most of their time living under rocks and logs eating earthworms and slugs. Very cute, little, harmless snakes that pose no danger to humans or pets. . . . #wildlife
