Movie night in the Amazon. On a quiet night in a Waorani community, people watch closely as images of resistance are projected on a white sheet. Storytelling and filmmaking have helped build and strengthen the #WaoraniResistance movement against Oil Block 22 in Waorani territory. By showing the devastation that the oil industry can cause, community members better understand the imminent threat posed by the oil industry's expansion into their rainforest. ⠀ ⠀ Amazon Frontlines and the Ceibo Alliance are training Waorani youth in a variety of communications tools, allowing Waorani youth to share the issues that trouble their communities from their own perspective. ⠀ ⠀ https://buff.ly/2NbNhY8⠀ ⠀

If we don’t act now, oil companies will continue to push deeper and deeper into the most biodiverse rainforest on Earth, threatening one of our planet’s most important defenses against climate change and the indigenous peoples who have lived there for millennia. The Waorani people, guardians of this ancient forest, are united in resistance. Stand with them by signing their declaration that their rainforest is not for sale. Link in bio. #WaoraniResistance

@amazonfrontlines: For Waorani women living along the Via Maxus oil road in Yasuni National Park, the day begins at the crack of dawn, young children in tow and empty buckets in hand, as they wait in the morning mist for the oil company bus that will take them 1 hour up the road to the oil station. There, the company fills their buckets with potable water and the women haul the heavy buckets home. This sequence is repeated again in the afternoon. Every day. These women can no longer collect drinking water from nearby streams, as oil companies polluted the streams over the last three decades. ⠀ ⠀ Now, we are working alongside Waorani technicians to install rainwater catchment systems that will provide these families with filtered drinking water right next to their homes, improving families' health and reducing their dependency on the oil company. ⠀ ⠀ Interested in supporting this vital work? @amazonfrontlines: In February, despite massive protests by indigenous Amazonians, the Ecuadorian government announced the auction of 16 new oil blocks in the Amazon, covering nearly 7 million acres of roadless, primary rainforest. Block 22 overlaps the legal territory of 18 Waorani communities. All 18 communities are united in resistance and launched a global campaign last week in opposition to oil extraction on indigenous lands. They have drafted a petition to oil companies telling them not to bid on Oil Block 22. Their lands are not for sale. ⠀ ⠀ Support the Waorani and help defend the Amazon. As a kid i chilled with a few indigenous peoples in South America, the breadth of knowledge they have about the rainforest is vast. There is a conplex and sacred communication between man and nature that existed for millennia, this wisdom is almost extinct now. 🌸 Repost: Oil blocks cover nearly 70% of the Ecuadorian Amazon, a region that is home to some of the highest levels of biodiversity on Earth and diverse ancestral indigenous cultures. Deforestation and contamination from oil extraction threatens not only those that call the Amazon home, it threatens our entire planet, which relies on tropical rainforests to keep climate in balance.⠀ ⠀ Waorani indigenous communities have rallied in defense of this rainforest and are sending a strong message to oil companies: no oil extraction on indigenous lands without their consent.⠀ ⠀ Help strengthen their movement by signing and sharing their letter telling oil companies their land is not for sale. ⠀ Check out @amazonfrontlines #waoraniresistance
