Dear PM Trudeau @justinpjtrudeau, an expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline, which carries oil from Alberta to British Columbia, will multiply tanker traffic through the orcas’ habitat and expose them to increased noise and potential spills. Friends of San Juan’s compiled a list of what we can do to help the killer whales. http://sanjuans.org/2018/07/30/j35-what-we-can-do-to-help/. Let’s not forget the image of grieving Tahlequah and keep raising awareness of dangers to these beautiful animals , our ocean habitat and our global environment. My kids and I created these art pieces on Victoria’s beach to remind people of this pressing issue. Our government has the responsibility of protecting the environment first and come up with creative solutions that will enhance our economy through investment in green technologies. My kids, your kids, orca whales‘ kids deserve better. #nopipeline

“Protector and the Ghost” was one of the last paintings I finished in this series. It is an ode to the Water Protectors who call on their ancestors to stand with them as they protect our waters from corporate interests such as the Kinder Morgan pipeline. There has been a lot of activity on our coast with this controversial project, it has definitely been heavy on my mind the last 6 months and came out in the studio. . . It will be up at the Mind the Weather exhibition until August 23, information on the link in my bio. . . #nopipeline

Thanks to the big homey @sonictechworks (kyhan) for getting me to Vernon! We're up here helping the other good homey, biz partner and ky's bro in law @scottztoohot We really cant believe how much smoke is up here. We haven't seen a fire but the effects are noticeable....it's much crazier in person than on the news, that is for sure! #nopipeline

Its taken me weeks to configure how I'm to present the gift I was given, being at the right place at the right time While not coming off as an photo opportunistic jerk who wasn't concerned for the well being of the orcas. . We can hear their blow holes, they can hear our engines. . Whales are prescious, extraordinary and, extremely in danger due to human activity. Not only from leisure boats hitting them, overfishing and, farm fishing of foreign breeds resulting in pesticide dumps and diseases, which decimate our local wild salmon population, has lead us to just have just 76 residential orcas left in our waters. Since 1973 this has been an issue but, Orca whales have thrived here for 5000 years. So what has changed except for our toxic practices? . If you support the pipeline which will indefinitely increase tankers in their water (7x what it is now), you can not say you support the welfare of marine wildlife. . It's not too late to create ripples of change. You can notice how they are swimming in a direction of many giant fishing boats off the coast of thormanby island, instead of farther up the inlet where there is maybe no food for them to hunt? Maybe this is how they've adapted to catch fish in large quantities? Im not a whale expert just considering the fact, though unpopular, we should probably put some regulations on the amount of boats allowed in the water at one time. . This looks hypocritical as we broke the 250m distance law. However we were in a tiny zodiac with our engine turned off. This sighting still creates huge crowd mentality, which is not what a family of 5 beautiful orcas need when they accidentally swam into buccaneer bay. . It appears like they're playing, maybe they are but, I was in the water once they passed and experienced the noise of what 30 boat engines underwater sounds like. I can not fathom what orcas hear non-stop because of our selfish lifestyles. All I know is that more steps have to be taken right now to ensure the survival of our local population which is so stressed it hasn't been able to reproduce successfully in years. to #nopipeline
