Finished the Possessions series by today! 🤗 And in doing so, I had a startling realization: I never actually read it all the way through before now. 😲 I thought for sure I had; it's one of my favorites, and I have all of the books. But, as is my habit, I bought the whole series only to start yet never finish. 🙈 So, I'm proudly counting this as a win (and going to discreetly forget I ever made this bookish blunder 😅). - I found some faults with grammatical errors (do we blame the editor or the writer? 😖) and the general voice; book 2, The Evil Within, was such a drastic shift from book 1 in voice and style that it was actually jarring. It was like Holder had improved in her writing yet couldn't find a good way to seamlessly channel that first book. Not necessarily a bad thing for her, but it made for a clunky transition. 🤷‍♀️ Book 2 was my least favorite book; if it hadn't been for the big surprising-yet-inevitable reveal at the end, I would have felt it was a pointless addition. The movement both plot and character wise was nearly non-existent, and it posed questions that were mostly never answered. 🤦‍♀️ - Honestly though, even with the bad, I loved it. 🖤 The representation of possession was unique and interesting, and I was really pleased with all the ways Holder represents both teen angst and the struggle of mental issues. Marlwood, the asylum for "wayward" girls turned all-girls boarding school that was the series' primary setting, was a fantastic choice. It was the right amount of believable yet gothic spookiness for a series like this. 💀 Glad I (apparently finally) read it. 😅👌 . . . #ilovebooks

Finished 👍🏻❤️📚🤓 Anti-Law of Jante : You are worth much more than you think. Your work and your presence on this earth are important, even though you may not believe it. Of course, such ideas could land you in a lot of trouble for breaking the Law of Jante, but don’t be intimidated. Continue to live without fear, and you will triumph in the end. The Law of Jante page 218. Like the Flowing River by Paulo Coelho. #ilovebooks

The baby is down for the night, my man is sound sleep from a long and very hot day at work and here I sit, wide awake. What am I to do? Hmmm, might just have to crack open my new book and enjoy a glass of wine. I'm loving my new book already

Have you ever been in a slump, reading or otherwise? I swear, I am in the slumpiest slump that ever slumped. I can't read, I can't write, I can't think a good thought about myself, can't can't can't. AND IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! One thing I'm not feeling slumpy about is my photos. Like, my last photo, the ADSOM one...I LOVE that photo. I am SO HAPPY with how it came out. I think it is the inclusion of my HIGH TECH furry pillow case. That's right, from the folks who brought you the HIGH TECH white sheet background. Anyways, I'm just rambling at this point...let's move it on to... ------ Y'ALL LOOK AT THIS BOOK CLUTCH! I am so in love with my wonderful Doctor Who book clutch from @fandomhoneybees! It is the most perfect thing for me in the whole world. And as I was taking this picture I was watching the DW episode that the exploding TARDIS is from. Anyways, be sure to check out the @fandomhoneybees shop and use the code BOOKHIVE10 for a discount! ------ | I don't remember what this book is about but I know I liked it!| The Last Magician by @lisamaxwell13...man I love this book...but I forgot like half the plot (guess who is definitely doing a reread before The Devil's Thief comes out). All I know is there is time travel and a grumpy magician AND THAT'S ALL I NEED IN LIFE. & | A trope I dig | Time Travel and Grumpy Men with a soft spot & | Top Ten Tuesday: Book Recs | Hm...in no particular order: A Darker Shade of Magic, Mistborn (Era 1 AND 2), Vicious, Illuminae Files, Harry Potter, The Martian, The Name of the Wind, Red Rising, Stromlight Archive, and anything by LJ Smith. & | Favorite Title | I don't know if its my favorite of all time but I do love the title, The Last Magician. ------ #ilovebooks

A literary fiction about an unlikable narrator in which not much *happens* in the plot throughout the story? This was a recipe for the exact type of book I give a big NOPE to... buuut I liked the cover. So I bought it and read it. And judging a book by its cover actually paid off this time because I really liked Sorry To Disrupt The Peace by Patty Yumi Cottrell. ☮ Helen, our main character, returns home to the midwest from New York after the death of her brother by suicide. She tries to "solve" her brother's suicide with halfhearted attempts and conversations and clue-hunting while she is back in her hometown, staying in the house she grew up in with parents who have had enough of her. ☮ The novel is funny. It's easy to dislike Helen but her personality is so in-your-face, brash, and unexpected that you can't help but tip your cap to her, even when she's being an asshole. ☮ The story also addressed mental health in an interesting and raw manner. The flips and flops from dark humor to melancholy to sad hopelessness was a poignant picture of depression. Extremely well-written and I have to say... I recommend this one. . . . . . . . . #ilovebooks
