You'll never know what awaits just around the corner. The art installation "Forgotten Songs" commemorates the songs of fifty birds once heard in central Sydney, before they were gradually forced out by European settlement. The calls, which filter down from the canopy of birdcages suspended above Angel Place, change as day shifts to night; the daytime birds’ songs disappearing with the sun, and those of the nocturnal birds, which inhabited the area, sounding into the evening. Thank you @dojie_man for that pleasant surprise. Part of our wonderful Sydney memories. #habitatloss

Happy Monday! This is the brown-headed Squirrel Monkey! They are one of the world’s top 25 most endangered primates and are only found in Ecuador and Colombia. They are important seed-dispersers, as timber fruits cannot germinate until softened by passing through their digestive tracts. Their populations have reduced by 80% in the past few decades due to habitat fragmentation from logging, agriculture, and human population growth. These monkeys are also hunted for their meat and fur. To learn more, visit our website! https://www.neprimateconservancy.org/brown-headed-spider-monkey.html . . . . #habitatloss

Not many gingers will sit out in the sun but Jinga doesn't seem to mind. Naturally an orangutans habitat would be dense rainforests where very little light would shine through, unfortunately since the 1950s over 60-80% of their habitat has been destroyed. #habitatloss

Announcement! In the spirit of John Muir’s overrated and cheesy yet effective quote, “The Mountains are calling, and I must go!” I’ll be off backpacking in the Yosemite Backcountry until Friday this week. Just wanted to explain the lack of posts, but do not fear an article on the Helmeted Hornbill will be readily available for perusing upon my return! For now, enjoy this beautiful shot of Yosemite by Carleton Watkins taken over 150 years ago! This, among other photographs, were used to persuade President Lincoln to pass the Yosemite Grant Act to protect the Yosemite country and its many natural wonders. This Act actually lead to the eventual creation of the National Park System, but that’s another story :) ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~ #habitatloss
