Colorado’s mountain streams are premier trout fishing destinations. But anglers aren’t likely to reel in a greenback cutthroat trout. Until a few years ago, Colorado’s state fish hovered on the brink of extinction. In much of Colorado, cutthroat trout suffer from habitat loss and competition from introduced, non-native fish species like rainbow and brown trout. Researchers act meticulously, minimizing their disturbance at Bear Creek as they work to save this fish. Read more about the recovery of the Colorado’s state fish on our website. 3/3 I was little confused at the time because he was pretty clearly a -tailed macaque (Macaca nemestrina) but she had a very long tail, like the other species that occurs here, the -tailed ( M. fascicularis ). She was also VERY (possibly from just LOOKING at him 😉 …but some his ‘equipment’ was also pretty obvious- as seen here!) Turns out that these two species are known to in this area so she could be a long-tailed or a , I don’t have the expertise to distinguish. I need to learn more about this but wonder if #habitatloss has forced these two species closer. Regardless, this and just their abnormal proximity to orangutans raises many interesting disease exchange and emergence issues ….without even considering all the human contact. @TuftsVet @myohun.malaysia @USAID @onehealthworkforce

WE’VE ADOPTED AN ORANGUTAN!! Meet Citrawan, the newest Verve member! Citrawan was 11 months old when she was rescued with another infant orangutan named Bobina, and taken go the Sumatran Orangutan Quarantine Centre (SOCP). They then spent the next two and a half years there and were given excellent care. Now she has been transferred to the Bukit Tigapuluh Sumatran Orangutan Reintroduction Centre, where she and Bobina have commenced forest school to be reintroduced into the wild. We’ve been able to do this through @theorangutanproject , a not-for-profit organisation the supports a wide range of critical projects that address the holistic problem facing remaining orangutan populations, including deforestation and habitat loss at a high level. . . . . . . . . #habitatloss

Traditional knowledge. Contrary to evidence based on scientific data, information can be gathered by observations and knowledge passed on through generations. One example is the polar bears, who are believed to be in decline according to scientific data, however those who have inhabited regions in the Arctic report an increase in polar bear numbers in recent decades. #habitatloss

For Day 18 of , let’s talk about The Ocean Cleanup: a large-scale trash boom that will probably be deployed in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in the near future...the contraption will sit on the surface of the ocean, only going about a meter deep, except for the drag cables that will be attached to the free-moving “anchors”. ...the first of many holes in their theory is that a lot of debris and sinks because it is more dense than seawater. . and just your consumption, so that Boyan doesn’t have to keep up the PR shenanigans and potentially do more damage to marine life by using acoustic deterrent devices and lots of fossil fuel for the collection and processing of whatever the “impermeable screen” might collect (hint: it won’t collect , , neutrally buoyant film plastics, or derelict fishing gear) #habitatloss
