🌸Brave people use their words to heal. 🌸Speaking with kindness about other people’s hearts, minds, and bodies can go a long way to heal. 🌸 Brave and wise people don’t gossip or tear people down; or use their words to hurt people. 🌸 Brave people let God’s word and the words of the wise to bring healing.🌸 ...those that tear down, critique and criticize others ... hurt and hinder.🌸 Brave #buildup

Confession: I am not perfect. I know...shocking. Truthfully, I wish it was shocking. But I’ve had my fair share of bad choices and mistakes with some having more grave consequences than others. However, cursing doesn’t seem to have immediate or major ramifications. Or at least not as an adult. If I would have started cussing as a child, I probably would have gotten the spanking of my lifetime followed by a bar of soap in my mouth. But as an adult, cuss words seem to be just words. At least, that’s what the world makes it feel like. And to some extent that’s true. If I were to tell my daughter Ella to repeat a cuss word after me, it would mean nothing to her. But if I said the word stupid, she would say in her cute little voice, “Mommy, that is a bad word.” For my 3 year old, stupid would be a cuss word. One thing the Word is clear on is to not take the Lord’s name in vain. Exodus 20:7 says, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.” Many people will use this as a free pass to spew out other slanderous vocabulary, because they are not cursing God. But Colossians 3:8 says, “But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.” That’s a pretty broad statement. This would mean no vulgar words should come out of our mouths. Now before you start to think I’m getting all “religious”, I’m just as convicted. I’ve let some words slip. I’ve thought them in my mind (especially when someone cuts me off on the road and makes me slam on breaks). But God is not sitting in heaven just checking if I’m letting some cuss words slip. He checks my heart. Jesus said in Luke 6:45, “A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” So whether you are using curse words or talking down about someone, it comes from your heart and ends up flowing out of your mouth. Maybe it’s time for a heart check with the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to reveal where there is slanderous thoughts that flow out of your mouth.
