A couple of seconds before I shot this frame, three ducks had been intent on preening and the stretching of limbs and wings. I’ve absolutely no idea what spooked the birds but it was significantly worrying enough for all three of them to exit stage left, pretty sharpish. One of them reacted so quickly he’d already left the frame having sprinted across the surface of the river. inflight

One morning last June, we headed to the quaint fishing village of Quidi Vidi in Newfoundland. It was cold for June, and when we arrived a heavy fog blanketed the ocean and all colorful the boat houses and buildings. Disappointed, all we could do was wait and hope we wouldn’t lose the soft, morning light before the fog lifted. Suddenly, out the mist, a tern appeared and then disappeared. I quickly adjusted my camera settings and waited. She eventually appeared again and my patience was paid off. inflight
