@mbantuagallery Artist Michelle Lion and her beautifully painted Coolamon. These wooden vessels are made from hardwood trees in the Central Australian deserts. Women use them for carrying water, gathering up bush tucker, and even as a cradle for a baby. How lovely is this one? πŸ’— We love when the artists paint something a little different than the usual canvas πŸ’— . . . . Β #alicesprings Β

Day 36-38: 04/05/18-06/05/18 Festival 1: Wide Open Spaces Location: Ross River Retreat, NT Amount Raised: $50.40πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Arid Lands Enviroment Centre . πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ πŸ•ΊπŸ½ πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ•ΊπŸ½πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ•ΊπŸ½πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ•ΊπŸ½πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ•ΊπŸ½πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ . I arrived at WOSfest on the Friday evening and it was already in full swing. I saw the band @apakatjah who set the inclusive tone of the festival. One of the main highlights of the festival was the nature around us and the nature of the people who were all happy open minded partiers. A mixed crowd of all age ranges (a lot of families), sexualities, races that all got along together. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦β€πŸ‘¦πŸ‘πŸ•ΊπŸΏπŸ’ƒπŸ» β€’ Saturday was my favourite day- I snuck away from my stall a couple of times- first to peak at the pool party that was in full swing.πŸ’¦πŸ’¦πŸ’¦πŸ’¦ β€’β€’ The second time I stumbled across my musical highlight- @aliceivymusic . I was amazed by her performance recording and mixing groovey loops live. I was even more amazed when I bumped into two friends randomly in the crowd @emelilynggaard & Ana. I then stumbled upon my favourite DJ of the fest- @concierjfotos with a party orientated disco/house set to close off a wonderful day. . β€’β€’β€’ Without a marquee I had a makeshift shanty stall in a corner of the festπŸ˜‚ I did have an impressive back drop to the stall- designed and created by the talented @foryou_tosee β€’β€’β€’β€’ One of the happy customers- the best part about having the FlyAF stall at a fest is seeing all the groovey clothes around the fest! . β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’ Another highlight was the whole festival climbing a nearby hill for the sunset closing ceremony on the last evening πŸŒ… . β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’ I loved the hippie vibe of this festival- even found this poem (Desiderata by Max Ehrmann) in the toilets! 🚽 πŸ“– β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’β€’ All in all FlyAFs first festival went really well and we managed to raise $50.40 for the AREC. This organisation has been working hard since the 80s to conserve Australia’s arid lands. The reason I choose them was to support their work to ban fracking in central Australia. You can find out more about their work from their Facebook page!
